In times of drought, herds will bypass normal herding routes and go south towards Tambacounda and Gambia.
Due to its humidity and poor quality pasture, the Gambia River Valley is a destination of last resort for Northern herders.
Extreme drought
In case of extreme drought, Northern herds may head to Guinea or Mali.
